Stroke Risk Assessment Screenings:
The Stroke Program performs free stroke risk screenings in conjunction with American Heart Association.
These screenings entail a brief questionnaire; measurement of blood pressure and heart rate; a
finger-stick for a small blood sample to measure total cholesterol; listening for carotid bruits
in the neck (a sign of abnormal blood flow if present); providing literature on stroke symptoms
and risk factors; and answering questions while reviewing information regarding stroke awareness
and prevention.
These screenings are performed every May, which is Stroke Awareness Month, and periodically
throughout the year by invitation from interested groups.
