Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Smiroldo is an Associate Professor of Neurology and the Director of the Adult Neurology and
Medicine/Neurology Residency Training Programs. She has special interest in the areas of
neurorehabilitation, multiple sclerosis and pain management.
After completing a Neurorehabilitation Fellowship at SUNY Stony Brook, Dr. Smiroldo joined
the Neurology faculty at Stony Brook. She has expertise in the area of Multiple Sclerosis.
Her background in neurorehabilitation and pain management, give her unique qualifications as
an attending neurologist at the Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center at Stony Brook. Dr.
Smiroldo participates in numerous clinical research studies examining therapeutic options for
the treatment of the various forms of Multiple Sclerosis.
In addition to her work at Stony Brook, Dr. Smiroldo is also an Attending Neurologist at
the Northport VA Medical Center. There, she treats general neurologic conditions such as
Parkinson's disease, cognitive dysfunction, back pain, headache and neuropathy in the veteran
population.
Dr. Smiroldo is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Society of
Neurorehabilitation. She serves on the Graduate Medical Education Executive Committee at Stony
Brook and is actively involved in resident training.
