Lauren Krupp, M.D., Director
Lauren Krupp received her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College
of Medicine, completed her Neurology Residency at Albert Einstein and
Montefiore Medical Center, and then completed additional fellowship
training at Neuroimmunology/ Multiple Sclerosis Branch of the National
Institutes of Health. She is currently a Fellow of the American Academy
of Neurology.
She is currently a Professor of Neurology and Psychology at the
State University of New York at Stony Brook and Medical Center
and specializes in multiple sclerosis. She is the director of the
Pediatric MS Center at Stony Brook (the first and only Pediatric
MS Center in the United States), co-directs the adult MS Center at
Stony Brook, and directs a research program that covers the relations
between fatigue, mood disturbance, and cognitive dysfunction in MS
within the department of Neuorlogy.
Other projects include studies of children and adolescents with MS,
evaluation and treatment of MS associated cognitive problems and fatigue.
She has received for her research grant support form the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society, the National Institutes of Disability and Rehabilitation
Research, private foundations, and grants from pharmaceutical companies.
She has published over 100 original articles or chapters in books and is
an internationally acknowledged authority in multiple sclerosis.
Anita Belman, M.D.
Anita Belman earned her Medical Degree from New York University. She
completed her Neurology Residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
and Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, with a fellowship at Albert Einstein
College of Medicine. She has Board Certification in Pediatrics and Neurology
with special qualifications in child neurology. Her special interests and
training are in child neurology and higher cortical functions.
Maria Milazzo, N.P., CPNP
Maria Milazzo is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who has been in practice
for nine years. She has written over 30 publications regarding her work
including book chapters for neurology textbooks. Ms. Milazzo has a special
interest in caring for children and adolescents with infectious and
inflammatory disorders of the nervous system. As a Clinical Assistant
Professor with appointments in the School of Medicine and the School of
Nursing, Milazzo is an active educator who enjoys sharing her experience
with health care professionals, parents, and members of community.
William Macallister, Ph.D
William MacAllister is a Neuropsychologist with clinical experience
in a vast array of neurological conditions. Specifically, his interests
are in pediatric and adolescent polpulations. Dr. MacAllister is currently
a Research Specialist in the SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, Department
of Neurology and is currently involved in the pediatric Multiple Sclerosis
project. He has presented research related to cognitive functioning in MS
at both national and international conferences, and evaluates children
and adults with cognitive problems from MS as well as other neurologic conditions.
In addition to his research, MacAllister enjoys working with children,
their families, and the school systems to ensure proper academic and
psychosocial adjustment and to maximize quality of life for these individuals.
Deborah Weisbrot, M.D.
Dr Weisbrot, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Stony Brook University Medical
Center, is the Director of the child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Division.
Her current areas of clinical care and research interest in the pediatric
population are anxiety, depression, aggressive behavior and the neuro-psychiatric
aspects of chronic medical disorders in the pediatric population, such as in
multiple sclerosis.
She has lectured nationally on child and adolescent depressive disorders
and in addition to multiple sclerosis has a major interest in conversion
disorders, and epilepsy.
