The Midwifery Program at Stony Brook
For generations, midwives have cared for women during pregnancy, childbirth and the early post-partum period. Their holistic focus recognizes the needs of women and those important to them. Certified Nurse-Midwives are faculty of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine. They care for patients, educate other health care professionals and work together with physicians as valued members of the health care team. The philosophy of the midwives at University Hospital and Medical Center is that there are natural rhythms within a woman's life, which include sexuality, pregnancy, childbearing and menopause. Each is an important event within the life of a women and her family. We spend time with women...listening and learning fromthem in the process of educating women wabout their healthchoices.
